DISAPPEARANCE OF DOCTOR PROBED
Galveston Police Thursday were probing into the disappearance of Dr. Winston Martin, 52, of Galveston, who left home Dec. 23 and has not been seen since.
Martin, an associate with the Harris Clinic at the University of Texas Medical Branch, reportedly left home shortly before midnight Dec. 23 in a 1976 Mercury Marquis station wagon, silver-blue in color with the license number KAG-171.
According to Lt. Walter Lacy, head of the detective division, Martin's family waited two days before notifying police while they contacted friends and relatives in hopes that Martin had contacted someone.
Police were notified Sunday and a state-wide and national check was placed on the car and Martin, Lacy said.
A check on the man's credit cards was also placed.
The family told Lacy that all of Martin's luggage and clothing have been accounted for and no unusual sums of money were missing from the house.
Martin was described by his family as being a likeable, well-dressed man and one who makes friends easily, Lacy said.
Detectives Clifford R. Simmons and Paul De La Rosa have been assigned to work on the case, Lacy said.

LEADS SOUGHT
Galveston Police detectives continued Friday to search for clues to the disappearance last week of a 52-year-old Galveston physician.
Dr. Winston Martin left home Dec. 21 in his 1976 Mercury Marquis Station Wagon and has not been seen since.
Lt. Walter Lacy, Chief of Detectives, reported no progress in the case Friday. Lacy said investigators do not believe foul play was involved in the doctor's disappearance but have not ruled out the possibility of violence.

Man's Leg Puzzles Police
Police were searching for clues Saturday to explain the mystery of a man's right leg and foot found Friday night in Galveston Yacht Basin.
Detective Leo Singleton said the leg had apparently been at the bottom of the Gulf or the Bay for at least a month. The foot was wearing nearly new, size 11 shoe, Singleton said.
The leg, severed below the knee, apparently belonged to a heavy-set man, about six feet tall, or taller, Singleton said.

DIVERS TO HUNT FOR BODY AFTER LEG DISCOVERED
Divers will search underwater at the Galveston Yacht Basin today to see if the remainder of a body whose right leg floated to the surface Nov. 3, may still be submerged.
County Medical Examiner Dr. W.E. Korndoffer has been unable to determine he identity of the person to whom the leg belonged. X-rays taken of the leg are awaiting examination by a radiologist in an attempt to identify who it is.

Note: The leg and shoe were lost in evidence somewhere. It was never conclusively proven to be Martin's leg, although most believe it was. The rest of him is still missing, possibly in the water.

HUMAN LEG FOUND

A man's leg, severed at the knee was found in the water at the Galveston Yacht Basin late Friday by a Houston family.

Police said the leg and right foot was discovered at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a sailboat slip behind the Holiday Inn. A knee-length sock and black shoe was on the leg.

The leg had apparently been in the water at least two to three months, police said.

Deputy Medical Examiner Raymond Perry took the leg to the county morgue for further examinations.
