New Jersey State Police have issued an amber alert for a three year old girl who was apparently abducted from a store in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The missing girl is Jessica Alvarez, described as 3 feet tall, weighing 30 pounds, wearing a white hooded sweat shirt, a white tee shirt with a dog or cat on the front and beige pants. The suspect is described by State Police as a black female, late 40's - 50 years of age, 135 pounds, long black curly hair believed to be a wig, wearing a teal blue/green jacket and a dark colored blouse. Jessica Alexandra Alvarez and her mother were at Unique Thrift Shop on Broad Street in Elizabeth at 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Jessica is Hispanic, approximately 3-feet-tall and 30 pounds.

She was last seen wearing a white hooded sweat shirt, a white T-Shirt with a dog or cat on the front and tan or beige pants, police said.

Elizabeth police spokesman William Reyes said a security camera recorded a woman in a "bushy black wig" removing the toddler from the toy section of the shop as the girl's mother shopped nearby.

Police say the suspect is a light-skinned black woman in her late 40s, shorter than 5 feet tall, and weighs about 130 pounds. Reyes says she was seen wearing heavy makeup, a teal top and black tights, and appeared to be traveling on foot when she left the store.

Amber Alerts trigger alerts to area media and police, and messages describing the abduction on road signs.

Anyone with information is asked to call the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit at 800-709-7090.

3-year-old girl abducted from Elizabeth store found in Rahway

Woman suspected in the abduction of Jessica Alexandra Alvarez.
A 3-year-old girl who was abducted from the toy area of a thrift store in Elizabeth early yesterday has been found, apparently unharmed, in Rahway, authorities said.

The suspected kidnapper, Yvonne B. Alexander, 54, has been arrested by Rahway police, Elizabeth police Lt. Garry Lewis said.

Television helicopters late this afternoon showed video of a police officer removing a child from a minivan at the intersection of Whittier Street and West Grand Avenue in Rahway and putting her into an ambulance.

Police said the child was taken from the Unique Thrift store at 116 Broad St. in Elizabeth at about 11 this morning. The girl had been playing with dolls in the toy section of the store, where her mother had left her alone for a very short time, Lewis said.

A tip from a witness who said they recognized Alexander led police to the suspect and child, Lewis said. Details of the arrest were not immediately available.

Alexander has been visiting the thrift store on a daily basis, according to employees.

A surveillance video showed the child being led out of the store by a woman in her 40s or 50s with long curly black hair believe to be a wig.
