I thought maybe the fact that it was a Thursday and was not a holiday that maybe pointed to the further assumption that she was a runaway, but she also could have been kidnapped, so that, I guess doesnt amount to anything.

Still would like to know if anything was happening around the area that week or in the upcoming weekend.

Also maybe look for a similar crime in the area and if any suspects had any reason to be traveling where she might have been from (the pollen.)

Things that point to Cali being a runaway:

The decay in her one tooth was very bad, though it could be reasoned that she never had any dental care anyways. Schools usually would take care of this if the family could not so this is strange to me at her estimated age.

She was wearing some male clothing, though some women just do that anyways.

The pollen found in her pockets pointed to her being from elsewhere though again, maybe not even her clothing.

It was Thursday, a school day and no holiday, so if she were school age, she should have been in school.

There had been possible sightings of her hitchhiking.

I recieved a news article from 2002 that says the label on her jacket actually says Auto Sports Product, Inc. (without an "S")

Maybe that might help find it, I dunno.

This flyer from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office in Geneseo, N.Y., shows the face of an unidentified female found murdered in 1979 on an upstate New York farm, at right, and an artist's sketch as she might have appeared in life, at left. Authorities said new forensics have found traces of pollen from the American Southwest on her pants after her body was recently exhumed to pull DNA evidence. New York authorities have enlisted the help of Albuquerque police and hope the pollen could help identify the female, who was between 13 to 19, after more than 30 years. She had visible tan lines from a halter top or bikini, suggesting that she may have come from a region with abundant October–November sunshine, as sun tanning beds were uncommon in the 1970s.[6][8] There were freckles on the backs of her shoulders and acne on her face and chest.[3]
Caledonia Jane Doe's teeth were in natural condition, with no restorations or fillings. She appeared never to have received care from a dentist. Some of her permanent first and second molars suffered from severe dental caries (cavities and decay). Consistent with Caledonia Jane Doe's young appearance, none of her permanent third molars (wisdom teeth) had erupted.[3] Her blood type was A-

Among the types of pollen found on the clothing by the Texas A&M University researchers were grains from Casuarina (Australian pine, or "she oak"), Quercus (oak), Picea (spruce), and Betula (birch). The clothing pollen grains were compared to a control sample of pollen grains taken directly from the rural New York site where Caledonia Jane Doe's body had been found in 1979.[5][7]
Oak grows widely all over the United States, and spruce and birch grow in New York, among many places in the United States. However, no oak, spruce, or birch pollen grains were found in the control sample, and neither spruce nor birch trees were found growing near the body dump site.[7] Caledonia Jane Doe's spruce and birch pollen came from species common in mountainous areas of California.[13]

Australian pine, or Casuarina, is an invasive genus of tree that grows in a limited number of locations in North America: south Florida; south Texas; parts of Mexico; the campuses of the University of Arizona and Arizona State University; and three regions in California: the North Bay of San Francisco, the San Luis Obispo area, and the San Diego area.[7] Casuarina cannot survive the autumn and winter seasons in the temperate climate of the New York region where Caledonia Jane Doe was found.[13][14]

She or her clothing would not have acquired the Casuarina pollen grains at the dump site.
Overall, researchers believe the southern California and San Diego region to be the best geographical pollen print match location for the grains from Caledonia Jane Doe's clothing.[7]

Based on the pollen evidence and the girl's visible tan lines, forensic researchers suggested that Caledonia Jane Doe may have originally lived in the southwestern United States near San Diego, California, then traveled (perhaps by hitchhiking) through the Sierra Nevada mountains where spruce and birch grow, passing through Reno, Nevada, and then traveled across the country to New York, where she was murdered.[5][7][15]

Truckers interviewed by police reported having seen the girl hitchhiking and catching rides prior to her death. One trucker stated that he saw Caledonia Jane Doe trying to hitchhike to Boston, Massachusetts the night before she died.[6] As Caledonia, New York, sits a driving distance of approximately 75 miles (121 km) from the United States–Canada border via the New York State Thruway and Interstate 90, the possibility remains that Caledonia Jane Doe may have been Canadian rather than American or Mexican.[6]

Interstate 90 also runs from coast to coast within the United States, beginning in Seattle, Washington and ending in Boston, Massachusetts.
