DEPUTIES IDENTIFY BODY AS MISSING GIRL
The badly decomposed body of a woman found Thanksgiving Day near Darrington Prison Farm off County Road 382 has been positively identified as Nina Lynn Kluge,16, of Cypress, missing since the night of Oct. 22.
The body, discovered at 4:44 p.m. Thursday, by two rabbit hunters, was identified from dental records by Miss Kluge's dentist at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Officer's had feard it was Miss Kluge from the beginning because clothing found near the body fit the description of clothing she was wearing when she disappeared at 11 p.m. Oct. 22.
Brazoria County Sheriff's Capt. Ben Woodard said Saturday morning there was "obvious evidence of foul play" but declined to give the cause of death until the final coroner's report is recieved from Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
An officer present when the body was removed from a rice field drainage ditch beside a rice irrigation canal Thursday evening said there appeared to be severe damage to a portion of the skull.
Miss Kluge was reported missing on Oct. 23 after she had last been seen visiting friends at Rosharon about 10:30 the night before.
Fort Bend Sheriff's Department officers found her auto abandoned beside Highway 6, approximately 3.3 miles west of Arcadia early the morning of Oct. 23.
They reported that the ignition key was turned on and the car was in gear at the time they found it. The battery was apparentely dead because officers were able to start the car by using jumper cables. They also reported the gas tank was still full.
Miss Kluge's mother told officer's she left home about 9 p.m. on Oct. 22 to go riding. She was later reported to have visited the friends at Rosharon about 10:30.
Capt. Woodard said the friends of Nina Kluge told him they were watching the final game of the World Series when she arrived. A boy in the group said she sat on the hood of her car and talked to him for a few minutes and then left to return home.
Officers estimate she left Rosharon between 11 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.
Brazoria County Sheriff's Lt. Gene Smith who has been placed in charge of the investigation, said that at this point he must assume the Cypress girl stopped beside Highway 6 with auto trouble or for some other reason and her assailant met her at that point.
Evidence where the body was found Thanksgiving Day indicates she had been killed elsewhere and then the body was dumped into the weedy drainage ditch.
The body was nude when found and was lying atop some of her clothing and other clothing was wadded up nearby. Officers found blue jeans, red shirt and yellow bikini panties near the body.
A large senna bean plant had been knocked out of the ground and broken by her body.
Lt. Smith talked to farmers and fishermen Saturday who had been in the area since Miss Kluge's disappearance but had failed to see the body because of the thick growth of weeds.
There is speculation that whoever put the body in the ditch had to be familiar with the area. The spot is located deep within some rice fields and it is necessary to make two sharp turns on rice field roads to get to the rice canal levee.
Capt. Woodard said the friends Miss Kluge visited at Rosharon have been interviewed extensively by officer's, both at the time her disappearance was reported and since the body was found, and at this point they are certain they have no further knowledge of her movements after she left their home.
Miss Kluge's parents spent several hours with Brazoria County officers Friday afternoon after her body had been identified in an effort to give information which might lead to a clue to who her assailent might have been.
Officers with the evidence found with the body are now working on the basis the case is a sex murder.
