MISSING FEMALES One rationale provided for the "no-body-required" rule is that a murderer should not be entitled to acquittal simply because he successfully disposes of a victim's body. "That is one form of success for which society has no reward."

Default Lola Carney, 1982, New Jersey

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1289dfnj.html

Lola Carney
Missing since September 12, 1982 from Clarksboro, East Greenwich Township, New Jersey.
Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics
  • Date Of Birth: June 7, 1942
  • Age at Time of Disappearance: 40 years old
  • Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4"; 135 lbs.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair; brown eyes. Light complexion.
  • Dentals: She wears dentures.

Circumstances of Disappearance
On September 12, 1982, the night before the first day of school, Lola Carney disappeared from 261 Whiskey Mill Road in Clarksboro, New Jersey.
She was not reported missing until January 3, 1983, by her sister. She was very close to her children and therefore, the reasons surrounding her disappearance are suspicious. An extensive investigation has been ongoing, and to date her whereabouts are unknown.
Carney lived with her fourth husband, who was the father of her youngest child. He told the children their mother had left home in the middle of the night and would not be returning. If Carney did leave home that night, she took approximately $17,000 and a handgun. The night before Lola Carney disappeared, she'd spoken with her sister and told her she was thinking about taking the children and moving into a place of her own while seeking a divorce.
She allegedly left in a red 1973 Chevy Nova bearing New Jersey registration 752RZD (VIN #1X17D3W289214). The vehicle has never been located.
Name traces, driver's license checks, scrutiny of Social Security Administration records, credit checks -- nothing has turned up any information on her.

The investigation is ongoing. The mother of three is presumed dead and authorities believe she was murdered.
"From what we know of Mrs. Carney, she had three kids she loved dearly and she would not have gone away this long," said East Greenwich Police Lt. Chris Everwine. "You would think a person would eventually reappear."
Both the police department and Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office continue to investigate Carney's disappearance.
Everwine has been on the case since 1998.
"We feel that there is somebody out there who does have information and we're waiting for the day that person comes forward with what exactly happened to Mrs. Carney," Everwine said. "Somebody out there knows."
Before her disappearance, Carney had been married to her husband, George, for nine years.
On Monday, Mr. Carney said he remains convinced his wife was "seeing somebody" and ran off with that person.
Although it has been 25 years since Lola Carney was last seen, police still believe "there is some information that might be obtained," according to Prosecutor's Office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld.

I'm going to remain anonymous since I have no idea of this situation that I've just learned and also don't want to reveal anything private of the group home (261 right now is a group home). . .
. . . But just to share an odd opinion, because it DOES happens. I've truly never been a ghost believer, since my personal opinion is make believe like a tooth-fairy and never seen one with the naked eyes. However, there are many ppl that do believe the paranormal is real and also there's a saying that some mental disabled people has the ability to see or communicate with ghosts.
...Now found interestingly coincidental that before I learned about lola and first met the new residents, I observed some things that now raises question to me about this case... For example, sometimes specific clients comes out of their bedrooms at night stating that the girl ghost keeps disturbing their sleep. I used to assume it was side-effects of their medications. Even one of the residents DOES says at random rare times, "lola is my friend" unless someone in the past before I met them taught her to say that. But as far as I'm awared, nobody taught her that...then I learned about lola and now find it interestingly coincidental. Also, every one in that house has gotten out of the ordinary cold-flashes here and there, I used to say it could be the central air wind gusts from the vents..even tho once or twice I felt a cold-flash for a few seconds and the air wasn't on,,, coincidental.

Another thing, last but not least, I always questioned why that house has two fire-places..has it always had two fire places? Has inside the house been thoroughly investigated? To me, before even learning about this event, I questioned the 2nd fire place in that house. Its just odd for a house to have two fireplaces right around the corner were there's already one fireplace..never seen a house with two near each other. Ever since I've learned about lola's situation, the fireplace that I've always question kind of made sense of a possibility why such a rarity was built.. The possibility to hide evidences not wanted to be found..which to me makes sense of the possibility mysterious disappearance of the money ($17k) being taken out being untraced and used in order to rebuild the fireplace and rebuilt its surroundings..like extend the living room floor or something. It crossed my mind of similarities to those horror mystery movies were a ghost seeks help and to lead a person to her corpse behind a brick-wall.

Its like I stated, I have absolutely no idea of this situation and may god bless her soul R.I.P. My condolences goes out to her family.. But it is something I've just learned that has contradicted the observations of the group-home that I worked for.. Which I definitely find interesting.

Well, damn, someone have Lola email me then.

Seriously though, I have seen fireplaces in close proximity to eachother up there. This usually happenes in older houses where there were basically two rooms that were used for entertaining, thus both needed to be heated for guests. I guess the question is, was one of the fireplaces added shortly after Lola's disappearance?
