Mark disappeared along with his friend, David Hesterlee. Both young men were 17 and both had surfboards tied to their ankles. The boys were last seen by a fisherman who was watching them surf, he said he turned away and when he looked back they were gone. Both boys were never found. Their surf boards were also never located. The surf boards were described as follows:

Mark Bachelder Surf Board
White on top
Bright Yellow on bottom
"Sunshine" written on deck of board
Indain on horse Drawn on belly of board.
One red fin with gold trim amd around skeg.

David Hesterlee Surfboard:
Older board
Dinged up
One ding on deck filled with purple wax
Two black fins
Duct tape alone side of board at front and back
Design not clear
Pale Yellow all around

It is not known if there is a nexus between this find and Mark. But, they were found after Mark was lost and down the beach a couple of miles from where he was missing. But it was it is a thought , the Brazoria County Sheriff has been reminded of this.

The first find was initially reported to current Brazoria County Sheriff Charles Wagner who was then Captain at the Freeport Police Department.

FYI the man to contact at BCSO is Captain Chris Kinchloe 979-849-2441.

Warms my heart to see this here. I've known about Mark's disappearance for many years now and it's great to see somebody thinking about the case.

Oh and who is the attractive young Lieutenant in the newspaper article? Anybody know what ever happened to him?

The Lt. is still investigating cold cases. He has children and now knows how important closure is for the families of missing people.
